Renshoji is a famous Buddhist temple founded in 1598 and used by Kato Kiyoshige, uncle of Lord Kato Kiyomasa. When the Hosokawas became the ruling clan of the Higo Domain (modern-day Kumamoto), such was their respect for the temple that they donated 100 koku (about 80,000USD nowadays) to the temple and another 100 koku to pay the salary of a priest stationed there. Earlier, when Kato Kiyomasa was in his 20s, he went off to fight in Korea and his uncle Kiyoshige was left to rule over Kumamoto for 9 years. He did such a good job that the temple was dedicated to him when he passed away.
